History doesn’t have to be boring, especially when you are on vacation in Mexico! A long time ago, there was a pre-Hispanic civilization named as the Totonac. This civilization established its empire mainly in the state of Veracruz where you will get to visit the Quiauixtlán archaeological site, located on the Metates Hill slopes. If this site hasn’t got your full attention wait until you visit the amazing Totonac cemetery where incredible tombs bejeweled with gorgeous jade stones can be appreciated. Don’t forget your camera as you will also stop by the beautiful Villa Rica beaches and the La Mancha Lagoon.

Your next stop is Cempoala, considered the second capital of the Totonac empire. Admire the impressive ancient buildings including the Great Temple, the Circle of the Gladiators or the Chimneys Temple. If you enjoy this trip on the vacations season you will also have the chance to see the famous Papantla Flyers and their ceremonies as they dance and throw themselves from 98-feet height poles.

Before ending this interesting tour, a visit to La Antigua is included. Take a look at the first municipality that was founded in Mexico which keeps the remnants of Hernán Cortez’s home, and the Rosario Hermitage, the first Catholic church in Mexico, is a place you won’t want to miss!
